The Clay Studio

As Philadelphia's only nonprofit solely dedicated to the education and promotion of the ceramic arts, and as one of the world's leading institutions in the field, The Clay Studio offers a unique venue for arts enthusiasts. Founded in 1974, The Clay Studio supports the ceramic arts through its artist residencies, gallery, studio space, and school, educational & outreach programs.

Hours
The Gallery and Shop are open:
Tuesday through Saturday, 11am - 7 pm
Sundays, 12pm - 6pm
In cooperation with Old City Arts Association, 5pm - 9pm the first Friday of every month.

Admission
No fee for the Gallery and Shop. Guided tours are available for $25-35.

Public Transportation
Take the Market-Frankford El to 2nd Street exit (2nd and Market Streets). Alternatively, SEPTA buses # 33, 17, and 48 all stop at 2nd and Market. Walk 2 blocks north on 2nd to 139 N. 2nd Street (between Arch & Race).

Other Information
Guided tours are available for the entire facility including the galleries, school and studio spaces. Artist demonstrations are also available, which typically include the use of a potter's wheel. Tours are designed to expose each participant to the vast range of expression possible with the use of clay, from functional everyday objects to abstract sculpture.
